Agra Foodie Weekend

Agra, a place that competes for top weekend getaways from Delhi. It is a popular destination for friends and family, especially during an extended weekend. I had planned my trip to Agra for 2N/3D over an extended weekend as well. The best time to visit Agra would be anytime between August & February as the weather varies from pleasant to cold. I started my trip with a drive to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway(More Details). Agra has plenty of options for stay varying from budget to swanky hotels. You can choose any depending on your requirement and there are several sites that can help you shortlist one.

I started from Delhi in the morning and reached Agra by noon. If you follow the same schedule and reach around noon, then Capri restaurant should be the place to eat lunch. It is an ordinary restaurant with average interiors but serves excellent food with warmth. Try the Butter Chicken(boneless). Its an in-house specialty where butter chicken gives a taste of “Rarha Mutton Gravy”. And the roti; soft and freshly made. They serve one roti at a time to ensure that the customer eats freshly prepared ones only. Excellent. I caught some sleep and headed to Sadar Bazaar for evening snacks/dinner. The place you should head to is Chaat Gali. Its a lane full of chaat and snacks stall. Try chaat at Agra Chaat House, then Bhel Puri at Keylo Devi’s stall and end with kulfi falooda at Shankar’s.

Day 2 and i am at Devi Ram Sweets on MG road for breakfast. Take a bite of Aloo Bedhmi followed by Jalebi and Lassi. The place is crowded and it will not be incorrect to state that almost all of Agra comes here for breakfast :). Amazing, it is. The day should be planned for your site seeing and Taj Mahal and Agra fort can be on your list. I wanted to check out fatehpur sikri but dropped it because of the drive and weather. It is an hour’s drive from Agra. I was done with Taj Mahal & Agra by lunch time and decided to pinch some spice :). Pinch of Spice is a popular restaurant in Agra and serves excellent food as well. Suggest you to get reservation and avoid waiting. Post lunch, i Called it a day to relax at the hotel. For dinner, i wanted to try Mama’s Franky at Sadar and regret every bit of the decision. The place is just hyped;nothing special at all. Head to city for some other options.

Day 3 and i pack my stuff and start my drive back home only to stop at Ram Babu Parantha Bhandaar. This guy is famous for serving deep fried parantha of various vegetables. It deserves a one time visit; though nothing great. Deep fried paranthas are never a tasty option because the oil takes away actual taste of vegetables and spices. The lassi is good at Ram Babu and must have.

That was it i and i headed towards the expressway for the amazing drive back to Delhi. There is a petrol pump just before the expressway and a tyre pressure check up is recommended. 🙂 . Drive safe to enjoy.
