MTNL Broadband Disconnection Request

For those who are fed up with MTNL broadband service or have any other reason to discontinue MTNL’s broadband service; this document will guide you to hassle free application processing to disconnect MTNL broadband service.
If you call the MTNL customer care and inquire about the process; they will suggest the following:

  1. Download form.
  2. Fill form.
  3. Submit form along with other items.
  4. Success.

I have never heard anyone submitting a successful application with the above mentioned process.
I remember application process that I followed a couple of years back to discontinue the service. Identical procedure was used by a person known to me. The entire process has been described below:

  1. Application: Write an application describing your intention to discontinue MTNL broadband service. Prepare 2 copies of this. After successful submission of application; take a receiving from officer on one copy. As per a comment from a reader, if you are submitting application on someone’s behalf; then you need to attach any ID proof showing the signature of the person in whose name the connection was taken. Without this they would not accept the application.
  2. Connection Devices: Submit the following with the application:
    1. Modem.
    2. LAN Cable.
    3. Telephone Cable.
    4. Mixer Box.
    5. CD.
    6. Modem Box.
  3. Submission: Application can be submitted at the nearest MTNL branch. The officer will give receiving. Service is disconnected immediately but you will be charged broadband service amount for next 2 billing cycles. That’s what MTNL process says.
  4. Follow Up: Keep a follow-up of the process to ensure MTNL actions the application. In my case, I went to inquire about status and got to know that the application was misplaced by staff. I had to re submit and paid extra 2 months of bill. 🙁
  5. Note: There is a possibility that you have to submit the application at one counter and devices at another counter. This might take time and I suggest you to keep 1-2 hours for this work.

All the best !!! 🙂
Please share your feedback for process.

  6. hi,

Thanks for sharing your experience. But what do you mean by they will charge broadband service amount for next 2 billing cycles? Does that mean if i am paying 1899 for broadband every month i will have to pay 3798 rs. even after disconnection of my internet?

    • Hi Gaurav,
When i submitted for disconnection, I was charged for broadband services for next two months. Per them, it’s part of policy.
      Hope this helps.

  7. I had an outstanding of close to 5k against my broadband and fixed line. Since i was fed up with the services of MTNL i did decide to clear all my out standings and i did.
i also submitted the application form for disconnection which i had downloaded from the web and also cleared the latest outstanding, then and there itself.
they assured me of disconnection, and to my surprise i received an sms from MTNL the subsequent month, asking for to pay the over dues for the current month.
When i checked upon with customer care, it did say, that the line is still open.
can anyone advise, what should i do in such a scenario.

    • Best would be to visit the office in person.
Submit disconnection application and get a receiving by an officer.
      Also, keep following up.
I had to pay couple of months extra rent for broadband because of same reason.
They said they initial application submitted by you is missing..:(

  8. I agree with all the comments MTNL is worst service provider. I would ask people to go to an efficient ISP even if it costs more money and get rid of this inefficient monster, whoes middle name is Pathetic service and height of inefficiency.
    Thank you all

    • Hi,
I think it is adjusted in the next to mandatory billing cycles.
Not sure as I filed my request long time back.

    • Hi Sanjay,
This is a blog where people share their experiences of the process. You can take help from the post and apply yourself.
      All the best.

    • Hi Ajit,

I don’t think that gazetted officer attestation is required. I didn’t do it when i got my connection discontinued.

    • Hi,
It may not be applicable in your case.
When i had subscribed to MTNL broadband, they gave their modem and CD for setup.
hence, i had to return it while getting the broadband connection disconnected.
